Hideo Kojima and his company, Kojima Productions, are joining Sony and Oculus with skipping the Game Developers Conference due to the Coronavirus. In a post on its website, a representative of Kojima Productions wrote “Kojima Productions has made the difficult decision to cancel our participation at the 2020 Game Developers Conference due to increasing concerns related to coronavirus. Although much-anticipated, unfortunately this cancellation also includes Hideo Kojima’s session on the 19th and Eric Johnson’s session on the 16th. ” Kojima was supposed to present a talk on the design philosophy for Death Stranding which would have the game director “unravel this process through an analysis of the game’s concept, theme, storytelling, game mechanics and development, utilizing the overarching keyword of ‘connection’ as a framework.” This is the latest cancellation regarding GDC since both Playstation and Oculus canceled their appearances due to the Coronavirus. PAX East has been similarly affected by having Playstation and Square Enix cancel their plans for the event. It remains to be seen if more companies decide to cancel plans for public events because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Are you guys unhappy with Kojima Production’s decision to pull out of GDC? Hating the coronavirus even more? Comment below and let me know.
